What happens at our photo shoot?
This depends on the type of session you choose. If it’s a family photo shoot, whether in my studio near Louth or outdoors in the Lincolnshire countryside, I generally start with getting to know you all. I want you to relax around me and to enjoy your experience. I might grab the family photo first, then photograph in small groupings depending on what we’ve discussed at your pre-consultation.
For newborn sessions, I like to get to know mum, dad, baby and siblings, if they come along too. I’ll ask parents some questions about baby, we’ll discuss colours schemes a little more and poses. Once baby is fed, changed and settled, we’ll start to capture some gorgeous memories. My newborn sessions are baby led, and I have had full training, which I refresh with a booster course each year.
For themed shoots, such as a cake smash, I’ll spend time getting to know the birthday girl/boy through a little play time, take some photographs whilst doing so, then about half way through the session we’ll get the cake out, taste it of course, and then get messy!
We see you charge a session fee – what does that include?
The session fee includes a pre-consultation, my professional service, professional equipment, hand picked and beautifully edited photographs, a complimentary mounted print and your viewing & ordering session. To secure your session, the full session fee is required at the time of booking.
What if we can’t make it to the session?
Your session fee is non-refundable, but it is transferable under certain circumstances, such as illness. If you or your child is unwell, then we can re-schedule your session to suit, providing it is within 4 weeks of your original booking.
We’ve booked our photo shoot, what should we wear?
Something that you are comfortable in and that expresses you! We’ll chat about this at your pre-consultation, so that we are sure to get this right.
When do we get to see our photos?
I like to have them ready within 1 – 2 weeks.
How do we see our photographs?
You’ll be invited to your viewing & ordering session at the studio. It gives you the opportunity to see your photographs on a large screen, rather than a tiny tablet or phone. Often clients like to return without their little ones and make choices whilst seeing samples at the studio.
How many images do we get to choose from?
For all sessions there will be approximately 20 images to choose from.
Do you sell any print packages?
Yes! I have some amazing product packages. I love to see photographs in print, especially as amazing ‘wow’ pieces that are showcased on your walls. I’ve sourced some of the very best professional print labs and frame makers too, so I can provide the very best products.
We’d like some advice on choosing our photos and frames – can you help?
Sure! After your initial enquiry, I’ll send you my product guide. The best thing to do is have a think about what you would like before your actual session. If you want amazing wall art pieces (I call these the ‘wow’ pieces), then I will shoot with that in mind. If you are looking for a photobook, then I will photograph with that end product in mind. When you come for your photo shoot you can have a look at my range of beautiful, quality samples. Once we have narrowed down your selection of images, we’ll spend time making sure you get what you want.
We’ve booked a cake smash – can siblings and family get involved in the photo shoot?
Sounds like fun! I encourage family to get involved if they want, siblings tend to be more up for it than folks! Just let me know beforehand and I’ll work it into your session.
Do you have somewhere to clean up our little one after our cake smash session?
There’s lots of space at the studio so bring lots of wipes and an extra change of clothes to go home in! You too folks – it’s likely you’ll need to get changed too! Toilets are available.
For styled photo shoots like your cake smash sessions, how do we choose the backdrop set and props?
Most people just give me a general colour scheme and trust me to put together what I think will work and I’m happy to do this – in fact I love it! But I am happy for you to arrange to pop into the studio to have a look at choices whilst having a brew!
Most props are handmade so cannot be found elsewhere. It makes the styling even more unique.
For an additional cost, I can also provide the cake. I use a local cake maker who produces large, scrumptious cupcakes in almost every colour. These are currently £20*
What if our newborn photo shoot overruns because baby has been unsettled?
Don’t worry! Newborn sessions can last up to 4 hours. This allows us time to feed and settle baby. Also, I book the session based around baby’s routine, generally mornings from 10.30am work best, but each baby is different so I work to suit!
We have set our date, when should we look for our photographer?
Perfect! Once that date is secured, it’s time to search for your photographer. Make sure you meet with them and see samples of their work.
How do we secure our date with you?
I ask for a £200 non-refundable** deposit. This secures your date and I will not book any other work on that date.
Do we meet again before the wedding day?
Yes! After our initial meeting to secure your date, we’ll arrange to meet before your day to discuss the finer details. Once all of the wedding plans are coming together, I will suggest we meet at your venue/s to discuss your photograph shot list and where these can take place – including a rainy day option too. Although we always hope for the greatest weather, it’s best to have other options so you are not to worry on the day.
Can we have two photographers?
Unfortunately, I currently shoot weddings alone. When we work on the schedule of the day, I can often make sure I meet separately with both the bride and groom before the ceremony. This will be discussed at a pre-consultation.
I hate having my photo taken! How can you help me with that?
I know how you feel – really, I do! As a portrait photographer, I meet lots of people who feel like this. There are several things that I do to help put you at ease before your big day. Depending on your choice of wedding photography package, it’s likely that you will have a pre-wedding/engagement shoot with me. Firstly, i like this as i can see how you are as a couple in front of the camera, and secondly, you both get to see how I work. My main goal is to help you relax around me and my camera. I’ll help to give a little direction, and on the day itself we’ll mix this up with lots of candid shots too. You can read more on my approach here.
What if it rains?
We’ll plan for this. When we meet at your venues to discuss shots, we’ll create the ‘rain backup plan!’
How long before we get our wedding photographs?
Depending on what package you have chosen, your wedding photographs will be ready 4 weeks after your date. I don’t want you to wait months, it’ll be a nice thing to return to after your honeymoon. For handmade and bespoke designed items such as albums, this process takes time. We’ll work together on layout, choice of photographs and there could be two sets of proofs before sending to the professional labs to be made. Therefore, this process can take several more weeks.
Can we order more prints and art work through you?
Yes! In fact, that’ll be lovely. I love seeing photographs in print. I have sourced some amazing, high quality professional suppliers of canvases and handmade frames. There are samples at lovely Louth studio.
